Has it been a while since you have seen your optometrist in the Westminster, MD, area? If it’s been over two years, it may be time for an exam. Most adults only have to see the doctor every year or every two years. However, if you notice any of these symptoms, you may want to see the doctor as soon as possible.
- Double Vision: A corneal, autoimmune or neurological problem could be to blame for double vision. There are of course causes of double vision that are not worrisome, but it is better to be safe.
- Constant Headache: Poor lighting or too much computer time could cause constant headaches. Other causes could include poor vision or glaucoma. Seeing your optometrist may help you figure out the cause.
- Floaters and Flashes: Seeing gnat-like floaters is not uncommon, but if it is accompanied by a lightening-like flash of light, you may want to go to the eye doctor. While these symptoms could be benign, they may point to a retinal tear.
- Eye Pain: Whether eye pain is caused by trauma or an unknown source, it is a good idea to go to the optometrist. Eye pain usually not considered normal.
- Need to Squint: The need to squint is often associated with the need for vision assistance.
- Unequal Pupil Size: If the size of a pupil changes without any eye drop use, it could be a sign of a stroke, brain infection, tumor or aneurysm. Getting this symptom checked out right away is a good idea.
- Red and Watery Eyes: Keratitis, which is an infection of the cornea often caused by contacts, may include these symptoms. Other infections might also cause your eyes to become red and watery.
If any of these symptoms are a part of your life, you should schedule an eye exam. While there might be nothing wrong, it is better to keep your optometrist apprised of any changes or concerns.
