LASIK is a vision correction method increasingly gaining popularity among people who used to wear contact lenses or eyeglasses. This procedure involves using a laser beam to reshape your cornea and removing or at least reducing the structural infirmities responsible for your refractive error.
Here’s how you can prepare for the procedure:
Weeks Before the Surgery
After your eye exam results confirm you’re qualified to have LASIK, we can help you look for a surgeon to perform the procedure. Rest assured we’ll help you prepare for the operation and address any concerns you may have. We may instruct you to stop wearing your contact lenses a few weeks prior to the surgery. Doing so can help stabilize your cornea.
The Day Before the Procedure
Make arrangements for someone to drive you to and from the clinic. While the anesthesia used during LASIK usually wears off after a short time, it’s best to refrain from driving until your eye doctor has performed a post-operative eye exam and confirms you can safely drive on your own. Before sleeping the night before the procedure, remove your makeup and all traces of cosmetic products on your face, particularly around the eyes. You can also flush your eyes with artificial tears to remove surface debris.
On the Scheduled LASIK Date
Do not apply creams, lotions, makeup or other cosmetic products on your face. Avoid wearing perfume or cologne, as well.
If you’re still having doubts about pushing through with the surgery, feel free to tell your optometrist. We’ll listen to your concerns and provide solutions accordingly. We may also administer anti-anxiety medications if necessary.
